Mark Mitchell has decided not to join Kentucky Basketball and will instead return to the Missouri Tigers, according to Field of 68 reporter Jeff Goodman.
It appears Mitchell has decided he won’t fight against the SEC’s intraconference transfer policy and will look to stay eligible for the Tigers next season.
This is nothing short of a brutal blow for the Wildcats, who looked like a preseason top-10, potentially top-five, team on paper capable of challenging for a national championship.
Now, Kentucky will likely enter next season in the 15-20 range and hope to develop into a Final Four contender as the season progresses.
The only good news for Kentucky is that it won’t have to worry about keeping Mitchell eligible all season, which is far from guaranteed.
Still, this one is gonna sting for Mark Pope and Co.
