Gabe Vincent could be heading back to Miami. The free agent guard is being tipped to fill the Heat’s final roster spot and link up with the revamped core built around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Vincent left the Heat for the Los Angeles Lakers after helping the franchise reach the 2023 NBA Finals. Last season he split his time between the Lakers and the Hawks.
Now a return looks increasingly possible.
Vincent tipped to take Miami’s final roster spot
According to NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Heat are likely to use their last opening on a guard, with Vincent the clear favourite.
‘And I know we just mentioned Keshad Johnson; he is signing a two-way contract with the Miami Heat. So he is gonna remain in Miami; they still have that one open roster spot,’ Siegel said. ‘I would think that it is very likely at this point that they would give that to Gabe Vincent if he’s willing to take a minimum (contract) there.’
‘I would expect them to go guard for one of their final spots. I think that Gabe Vincent, a reunion there makes a lot of sense.’
The fit is obvious. Vincent was a fan favourite during Miami’s run to the Finals four seasons ago, averaging nearly 13 points and four assists per game as the Heat conquered the Eastern Conference before falling to the Denver Nuggets.
The 30-year-old never quite rediscovered that form in the three seasons since.
The belief in him remains strong inside the building, though. Siegel says star big man Bam Adebayo has been pushing for the reunion.
‘Bam Adebayo and Erik Spoelstra have been big advocates for him ever since Summer League,’ Siegel added. ‘We heard out there that Bam Adebayo is really pushing the Heat’s management to bring Gabe Vincent back.’
The need is real. Davion Mitchell is currently the only point guard on the roster capable of logging consistent minutes, which leaves Miami thin at the position.
Vincent on a minimum contract would give the Heat a proven table-setter alongside Antetokounmpo, Tyler Herro and the rest of a roster that has already added plenty this summer.
A reunion that once seemed unlikely is now very much on the table. If Vincent takes the minimum, South Beach gets one of its favourite sons back, and Miami fills its final piece.
